British Council Introduces IELTS on Computer (Writing on Paper)
If you are preparing for the IELTS exam, there is exciting news. IELTS has introduced a new IELTS on Computer (Writing on Paper) option that gives test takers more flexibility when completing the Writing section of the exam.
For many people, handwriting feels more natural and comfortable than typing. The new Writing on Paper option allows candidates to complete the Writing section by hand while still enjoying many of the benefits of IELTS on Computer.

What is IELTS Writing on Paper?
Writing on Paper is a new option available within the IELTS on Computer test format.
When you choose Writing on Paper:
- The Listening and Reading sections are still completed on a computer.
- The Writing tasks are displayed on screen.
- You will receive an official IELTS Writing Answer Sheet and a pen to complete your responses by hand.
- The Speaking test remains a face-to-face interview with a trained IELTS examiner.
This means you can enjoy the convenience of computer-delivered testing while still writing your essays and responses by hand.
